Project Description

Popdaco is a tile matching game in the style of Toon Blast, featuring deliberately simplistic graphics. The project's primary focus was on programming and technical aspects.

The game is played entirely on a board consisting of 4 different coloured tiles. The board default size is 9x9, however this may vary from level to level. The game mechanics can be summarised as follows:

  • Tapping a tile that has neighbouring tiles of the same colour causes all the same coloured tiles in that area to pop.
  • Popped tiles are removed from the board
  • Remaining tiles collapse downwards to fill empty slots on the board
  • New tiles drop in from the top to re-fill the board
  • Tapping a tile with no neighbouring tiles of the same colour does nothing

The game also features a simple level system comprised of two game modes:

  • Move level
  • Time level

In the move level, the player needs to reach the target score within the number of remaining moves. In the time level, the player needs to reach the target score within the time limit.
